A little late, but I thought it was worth noting: This past month the amateur radio club, of which I am a member, participated in the ARRL's annual Field Day events. Though our club is small, having less than 15 active members, we still managed to make an impression on the air.
We used a surplus military field antenna (which a passing Marine commented on - he used the same one in Afghanistan) and ran on both generator and solar power. Multiple rigs were set up, and we worked 20 meter vox during the day, 40 meter vox during the night, and I personally hopped on the laptop around 3am or so to run in digital modes (RTTY) in order to collect more points.
All in all it was a great time. Got a little sunburned, but us geeks need that from time to time.
